Thoughts On League Of Legends Season 6 Spring LCS Quarterfinals
I decided to release this post before playoffs to have a quick reminded of how teams are fairing. Week 9 of EU and NA LCS solidifies placements and overall how teams are doing before they practice for playoffs.
Alright so first up is Team Vitality vs Fnatic. Now, I called it in favor of Vitality, mostly because they seemed solid in their play style. What I failed to incorporate was their play style. Fnatic has a history of playing different styles thanks in part to their coach and they took advantage of that. Fnatic’s first two games were stomps to put it bluntly. The 3rd game Vitality came back super strong in a very controlled game. Game 4 could have been anyone’s game but Fnatic broke the game wide open with a huge ace at 35 minutes that won them the game and the series.
Origen vs Unicorns of Love was a surprising twist as Origen won with a 3-0 sweep. Origen seems to shape up when it matters and their experience with best of 5s seemed to triumph over Unicorns who quite honestly didn’t seem to be all there. It was interesting too as the games were quite even in kills and gold.
North America Quarterfinals
Cloud 9 vs Team Solo Mid was a rough one to call. TSM has been in the middle of the pack while C9 have been steadily improving over the split. The first game was pretty much a stomp in C9’s favor. The other three games however turned from even games into stomps in TSM’s favor. The idea was to keep Rush down early. By making sure Rush couldn’t make plays in order to push everyone else on C9 ahead, TSM kept one step ahead. Props to Hauntzer & especially Svenskeren for playing well in those matches. With TSM showing up they secured a semi final spot. Immortals might have a fight on their hands.
Liquid versus NRG was not interesting to watch with the exception of the 2nd game. Liquid pretty much had it in the bag if they played well. It’s kind of sad too seeing that NRG did super well at the start of the split but then just fell off horribly. The only member who I felt had presence on NRG was Impact and his tanking items which kept him up for an absurd amount of time.
Playoff Predictions: Semi Finals
Origen versus H2K is a coin toss. It really depends which Origen team shows up as I think H2K can do well in a best of 5. G2 Esports versus Fnatic will be interesting and is another coin toss. G2 is good but I’m not sure how they will do in a best of 5.
CLG vs Liquid I have no idea who will win that. Both teams doing well can prove to be a series that goes to all 5 games. TSM versus Immortals. Man, this will be a series to watch. TSM, if they show up, may just be able to take these giants down. Huni and Reignover will be the players TSM want to shut down. I think the first two games will be very telling of how the series will go.
